This may look like a boring closet, but this closet is one of the little things that sets us apart from other homes. I’m starting a series of posts called “little things,” and I invite you to join me in sharing what little things that you do that make a big difference in your home.
This closet contains a stock of extra pillows, sheets, towels, blankets, new toothbrushes, pajamas, shampoo, conditioner, lotion… all those samples you steal from the hotels you visit. You can find them all here. Why, you ask, would I dedicate a closet to this hodgepodge? It’s a choice that reflects our commitment to care.
We don’t JUST take care of our residents. We also take care of their families, when they are open to it.
If dad takes a turn and they don’t want to leave his side, we say absolutely. If mom is not going to be here much longer and the family is gathering, we open the doors. We offer meals, space for connection, and full use of our home. They have become family, and it is an honor to create a space for them to create beautiful last day memories with their loved ones.
You can get those last moments back once they’re gone, and this little closet of convenience helps families to stay connected however they choose to.
How do you support the feeling of family in your home?
